How to be Amazing at Amazon to Amazon Arbitrage

stencil.blog post feature

Amazon to Amazon arbitrage or Amazon flips (the current parlance for the Amazon crowd) can be a great way to make a profit selling on Amazon.

Basically, you find a product on Amazon that is priced lower than usual, buy it, then ship it back to Amazon via your FBA account and wait for the price to come back up.  Prices often bounce back quickly.  Especially if the demand is high or stock is low.  These are great opportunities to make a profit.

Let's dig in!

What Causes Prices to Dip

That is a great question.  I appreciate you asking.

There may be a flash sale.  Amazon’s algorithm may have had a hiccup.  A third party seller may not know what they are doing.  Maybe a repricer has gone haywire (I know this has happened very recently, but that is all I can say).

It doesn’t really matter what causes the price of a product to drop precipitously.  It just matters that you are able to be there when it happens.

How Can I Be There

Well, there are several ways.  Fortunately, they aren’t particularly hard either.  However, they may take some learning.

The first place to be is Keepa.  Click on the deals button in the top left corner.  It will show you all the price drops and update them every time you hit refresh.

Keepa Daily Drops

Over on the left side of the screen you can even use the filters to only show certain price drops by percentage, you can filter for seller, how old the price drop is, the price range of the item, and also sales rank.

Once you have all that set it is easy to sort them by newest and refresh for new price drops to show at the top.

A quick glance at the chart and a little math or a quick check with the Amazon Calculator Widget and you will know if the item is profitable for a flip.

Pro tip:  Follow the keepa notifier on twitter.  You can easily see what price alerts people have set up and possibly take advantage of them for yourself.

Use Software to Make Things Easier

Tactical Arbitrage has a built in Amazon to Amazon arbitrage feature.  It will search products on Amazon based on your criteria and will pull back items that are ripe for flipping.

If you want to learn more about the Amazon Flips feature inside of tactical Arbitrage you can check out my How To Guide.

Tactical Arbitrage Product Search

As you can see the Amazon Flips feature has a ton of filters for you to choose as you please.  You are also able to search bulk categories, bulk product codes (ASIN’s or UPC’s), as well as Best Seller categories if you have StoreFront Stalker Pro.

Once you have found some winners it is time to buy or set an alert for when the price dips back down to where you want.  You can do this easily with the keepa extension.  You can be notified via email, twitter, or even facebook.

Remember, look in many categories for flips.  Lots of people really like to focus on a particular category or two for amazon flips.  You shouldn’t.  You can find profitable items to resell in just about every category.

This feature pays easily pays for the $99 monthly subscription all by itself.  Plus you get product searches, reverse searches, and The Library search features and you can run all of them simultaneously.

This Seems Hard (It's Not)

The vernacular of Amazon to Amazon arbitrage, reading charts, using software all seem hard.  But it really becomes second nature with a bit of practice.  Before you even make a purchase you can do mock trials with alerts and manual tracking to see if you would make a profit on a flip.  Once you feel a bit more comfortable it is time to practice with a little money.  I believe you always learn the best when you actually have some stakes in the game.

If you spend just a few hours and a few dollars on learning the process through trial and error (never go deep, always go wide on flips) you will be a master in no time.  I promise.

So, what tips and tricks do you have for Amazon to Amazon arbitrage?  Please share them in the comments below.

How To Use StoreFront Stalker Pro to Source Like a Lunatic

Today I want to share with you several things about StoreFront Stalker Pro in all its wondrous glory.

First, let's talk about what StoreFront Stalker Pro does.  Honestly, the name has a creepy vibe to it but it has some sweet little features.  Second, I will show you multiple ways to use this Chrome Extension to actually source like a lunatic.  Gone are the days of using the excuse “I can't find anything profitable to sell”.

What does it do?

Like the name suggests StoreFront Stalker Pro was originally built to stalk other Amazon sellers stores.  It will pull their ASIN's and put them into a CSV file for you to then use in a third party program so you can find items from other marketplaces to sell at a profit.  Tactical Arbitrage and OAXRay are perfect examples of third party programs that will allow you to run these lists of ASINs.  I will show you how to do all of this below so, keep reading!

Now, it has gotten even better.  Not only will the extension pull items from other sellers but you can use it to pull ASIN's directly from the Amazon catalog itself.  Whether you want to find Amazon best seller items, movers and shakers, or you want to dive deep into any category or sub-category.  You can pull all the ASIN's you need and then find out where to source those items profitably.

In the next few paragraphs, I am going to touch briefly on how to use each feature and I am going to include a video so you can see exactly how to use StoreFront Stalker Pro.

StoreFront Stalking

This feature is the original premise of the extension.  I'm sure most everyone knows how to use this feature.  However, There are some enhancements that I will highlight as well as an idea to find more stores to stalk.  Take a peek at the video below to learn some more.

Amazon Best Sellers

Maybe your business model is the fast nickel.  I completely understand.  Get in, sell fast, and get out quickly with a little profit.  StoreFront Stalker Pro makes that easier than ever now.  You can check out the best-selling items on Amazon and then export the data to Tactical Arbitrage or OAXray.  Find out where to buy it so you can make a fast flip on the item profitable.  You'll be able to download up to 400 pages of items all at once in just a few minutes.  Check out below as I show you exactly how to do it.

Movers and Shakers

The next place you can keep an eye on with StoreFront Stalker Pro is the movers and shakers section.  I have a couple of reasons why I would personally check this section often.  In economics as market demand increases while inventory supply decreases you see prices trend upwards.  This can work in your favor as a seller because you can locate and re-sell inventory at a very fast and hopefully extremely profitable rate.

StoreFront Stalker Pro Let's use a very recent example.  Gene Wilder, the legendary actor, recently passed away.  Over here on the left is his Funko Pop Vinyl Figurine from Willy Wonka.  It skyrocketed to the number 1 selling toy on Amazon almost instantly.  Following this Amazon sold out of this $8.95 product and other sellers who had inventory in stock came to the rescue selling their inventory at a higher price point.

So, What if you could find these items in your local markets, maybe a market that doesn't have a huge movie fan base or maybe your town is a place gene Wilder thought sucked.  You would be able to purchase that inventory and move it to a marketplace that has demand in need of being filled with your higher priced product.

Yes, This is what we Amazon sellers do every day but when certain events happen or funny videos go viral it is our job, nay, our responsibility to help fulfill the demand for the product the consumer is wanting.

Check out the video below and I will show you how to use StoreFront Stalker Pro to grab all the Movers and Shakers so you can profit!

Stalk Entire Categories and More

One of the best features of this new release, in my humble opinion, is the fact that you can download ASIN information from entire categories.  So, if you would like to grab all the ASINs from the Toy category to reverse search you can do that.  You will need to drill down to a subcategory like action figures because of the size of the entire toy catalog.  But, category by category you can grab all the information you need to go out and find items to flip.

The other powerful way to use StoreFront Stalker Pro is to find all of the ASIN information on something you want to sell.  For example, I want all the ASINs from a search I did for “broccoli”.  Here is what gets pulled up.

StoreFront Stalker pro

It is hard to see, but there are over 27,000 results for the search term “broccoli”.  Now I can go and download all the ASIN information, open up Tactical Arbitrage or OAXray and be on my way to finding profitable items to sell.

In this last video tutorial, I will show you exactly how to do what I have described.  If you have questions or something isn't as clear as it should make sure to let me know.

Final Thoughts and a Disclaimer

First, a little disclaimer about StoreFront Stalker Pro.  The guy behind the program is not only a stand-up dude, a fellow Buckeye, but he is also lucky enough to call me his friend.  Now, this doesn't make me a shill for Nate McCallister (you can learn more about him at his blog).  In fact, I'd be the first to tell him if his product was a piece of hot garbage but, it isn't.  It is a powerful tool that, if used properly, can make you a lot of money.  As a plus, you can even use this tool to make money while you are binge watching Stranger Things on Netflix.

My suggestion is to add this to your sourcing tool belt.  Utilize it to its full potential and make a killing this Q4.  I know Nate stand behind his product with a money back guarantee and if he won't for some crazy reason (he will, by the way) I will refund you if you absolutely can not find any products worth flipping.

Finally, thanks for reading this far.  If you have any questions please leave me a comment.  I honestly will read every one of them and I will respond if you need any help.

Tactical Arbitrage Best Sellers Integration

So, I had to update this post because StoreFront Stalker Pro just got even better.  Tactical Arbitrage integrated it right into the platform so you can search best sellers on Amazon for profit.

It is super simple to use, you just need your StoreFront Stalker Pro key.  If you don't have this saved in your email you can reach out to Nate McCallister and he will get them for you.

I have also put a simple video together for you.

How to Sell Books on Amazon for Killer Margins

This blog is primarily about retail arbitrage in big box stores but I would be remiss if I didn't touch on how to sell books on Amazon.

Books are some of the easiest to source, highest ROI items you can sell.  According to Forbes Amazon sells over 5 Billion dollars worth of books every year.  Plus, if you read our last article you would be aware that third party sellers make up over 80% of Amazon's sales.  This is true for books as well and it is why I think everyone should learn how to sell books on Amazon.  Even if it just one small piece of their business.

So, let's really dig in and talk about different ways to source book inventory.  I have a ton of different methods.  These are all methods that I have used personally and recommend adding to your sourcing arsenal.

Dumpster Diving

Dumpster Diving This is not a dumpster full of trash, this is a literal gold mine.  I would bet good money that there is a book or two in there worth more than fifty bucks maybe even a hundred bucks.  Now, I'm no lawyer, and you will need to check your local laws and ordinances.  But, from what I understand, in most places, if the dumpster is not locked behind a fence or up against a wall it is fair game.  Go diving!

Now, the question is, where do I find books in dumpsters?  The answer is a ton of places.  Goodwill, they do throw out some books even though their cost of goods is zero.  Half Price Books throws away a ton of books.  They are a little better at sorting through the winners but even they miss some gold. Colleges, make sure to check outside the freshman dorms, especially after a semester is over.  Libraries, they are gifted books all the time and many of them never make it onto the shelves.  They are discarded even before a library sale because of a number of books they get donated.  Any brick and mortar bookstore or discount book store in your area.  They will have dead stock, books that they feel like they have no room for, or maybe even other items that you can flip.

Get a pair of gloves and get out and go digging for gold!

Free Inventory

Does it really get any better than selling something that cost you absolutely nothing?  I would say no and I would imagine many booksellers would agree with me.  While it may be hard to come by toys, grocery items, clothing, and shoes to flip on Amazon for free it is unbelievably easy with books.

Here are a few examples:

First, look around your house.  What books have been sitting on your bookshelf for years?  I'm sure your spouse would love for you to get it out of the house.  Secondly, check out craigslist.  People sometimes just want things gone and you can go pick them up for free.  A lot of times this will include books.  People just do not see the value in them and it is our job to take those items to a marketplace where there still is value.  You may have to move some junk to get the gold.

Facebook is also a great source for free inventory.  If you post in local Facebook selling or garage sale groups that you are looking for free books, you will receive a ton of responses.  About two weeks ago I actually drove around town and filled up my entire car with free books.  This is definitely a source you should look into if you are short on capital.

Online Arbitrage

Most people do not think of online arbitrage when it comes to learning how to sell books on Amazon.  This is good and bad.  It is good for those of us who know that flipping books from Amazon back to Amazon can bring in a nice revenue stream.  It's bad for those who do not know about it because they are missing out.  Let's dig into a few of the tools that can be used for online arbitrage of books.

First, Zen Arbitrage is a killer tool for finding books to flip.  This tool specializes in searching the merchant fulfilled sellers, often times people sell books for a penny up to a few dollars, that you can then send into Amazon and sell for more because they are prime.  Prime customers tend to be willing to pay more because they know there will be no hassle if they want to return a book.  They also know that they can usually get free two-day shipping on just about anything.

Second, a cool thing you can do is use FBA Master's Chrome Extension to do Textbook Arbitrage.  This extension will help you find books that you can purchase and then trade into Amazon for Amazon gift cards.  You can then trade those gift cards for cash or use them to purchase Amazon flips inventory.  Awesome little tool to have in your back pocket.

Finally, my favorite, Tactical Arbitrage.  Alex Moss, the creator, is always adding wicked cool features.  Soon, he will be adding the ability to find books to flip.  If it is anything else like the Amazon reverse search, wholesale bulk list search, product search, and amazon flip search already included you will be a pretty happy camper to have this tool.

Cherry Picking

This is probably the oldest method of book arbitrage and still one of the most abundant.  When I was learning how to sell books on Amazon this is where I started.  I went from thrift store to thrift store scanning all the books I could get my hands on.  The great thing about this method is that you can choose what to buy and what to leave on the shelf for someone else.  Maybe you only want to sell books that average 10 sales or more per month.  Maybe you only want to sell books that are worth more than fifty bucks.  There are so many options it's almost crazy.

So, let's talk about places to source books if you want to cherry pick.  The first is, of course, Goodwill.  If you click here it will allow you to find any Goodwill in the country.  They get tons and tons of books.  You should be able to go into just about any of their stores and find some books worth flipping.  Also, do not be afraid to go to the Goodwill outlets.  You will run into lots of pickers and eBay sellers but a lot of people leave the books completely untouched.  You also get to buy them by weight rather than individually.

Second, Library and discount book sales.  I personally have had some great luck with these.  Half Price Books has several large book sales across the country every year.  Just about every library has a friend of the library book sale.  Don't forget community and yard sales, church rummage sales, local auctions, and I am sure there is a thing or two I am missing.  To find a book sale event check out this website.  They show just about every book sale in the country.

Bulk Books

Here is the area that I have the least expertise in.  My wife, who is also my business partner, recently started purchasing Gaylords of bulk books. This came to us by chance while we attended a Half Price Books annual clearance event here in our town of Columbus, Ohio.  The person who was ringing up our purchases just happened to be the bulk sales coordinator and we struck up a conversation.  Dave (name changed for anonymity) let us know he had tons of stock that he can't move fast enough and was willing to cut us a fair deal on Gaylord boxes full of them.  He didn't even care that we know how to sell books on Amazon.  He just wanted to move them.

Bulk books can be a lot of work, there is sorting, grading, de-stickering, cleaning, and finally listing, packing, and shipping.  You may also have a lot of discards.  However, do not let that discourage you.  There are methods to monetize the discards.  Recycling, wholesaling, flea markets, and even donating.  The donation will be a tax deduction.  Just make sure to consult your accountant to do it properly.

I do not know much about finding multiple sources from which to get Gaylord of books from but as I learn more I will update the blog to help you more.  What I have found out is that you need to build relationships with the people who sell bulk books.  You will then be given preferential treatment and even called ahead of other buyers.  Trust me, it's worth it.  It is also a great way to scale up.

Resources

I want to close up with some resources for you, the reader.  Learning how to sell books on Amazon does not necessarily take a lot of skill.  But, you will be well served to grow as many skill sets as you can to make yourself a better bookseller.  That is where learning from as many sources as possible comes in.  So, first I am going to show you a book that I recommend.  It is a fantastic read.  Then I am going to share some groups you should be a part of on Facebook to learn more from some of the best sellers in the book business.

Book Flipping: 10 Steps to Setting Up and Fully Automating a Used Book Selling Business on Amazon – This book may seem expensive but Bryan really knows his stuff and has a pretty automated business.  He sells both used books as well and he has a healthy retail arbitrage business.

Bus Proof Book Flipping – This is a Facebook group headed by Greg Murph, another Ohioan, who does a killer amount of book sales every year.  He is completely bulk books and he is extremely open about his operation.  Bryan young also helps him with this venture.  Tons of great information as well as connections to be made here.

Reezy Resells – This is a younger guy who does a great job.  He did over $650,000 in book sales in 2015 and just keeps crushing it.  He's down to earth and just gets out and hustles.  His business is based on cherry picking.  Tons of great insight as well as a good youtube channel and snapchat.  Honestly, this guy has forgotten more about how to sell books on Amazon than I have learned.

There you have it folks, a short primer on how to sell books on Amazon and make killer margins.  If I missed anything or if you have a few words of advice that could help fellow sellers or people who want to start selling please leave me a comment.  As always, share this with your friends and family.
