So, prepping your own products for Amazon is becoming too time consuming and it's time to consider an Amazon FBA prep center service to take the load off your shoulders.
I get it. Maybe you have a full time job. Perhaps you need to focus on sourcing inventory instead of packing boxes. Maybe you live in a small house or apartment and the volume of packages is getting to be too much.
Any of these are great reasons to outsource your prep, packing, and shipping to a prep center.

Recommended Prep Centers
While we can't personally vouch for every single Amazon prep center on the list below we know that some people really want some recommendations for a prep center to help them.
So, we have done just that.
Through many conversations about processes, customer service policy, responsiveness, and even how problems are handled when they arise we have started to collect a handful of prep centers that we know will treat their customers the way we would want to be treated.
Below are a few places that we know will help you, treat you right, and have our "seal of approval".
What Should You Consider When Choosing an FBA Prep Service?
You'll have a number of factors to consider when choosing a prep center including the type of sourcing you will be doing, their location, capabilities, turnaround time, and tax consequences.
Type of Sourcing
The type of sourcing you practice matters, because not all centers cater to all types. Consider the following methods and then contact the centers from our lists below and enquire further.
- Wholesale Sourcing
- Retail Arbitrage
- Online Arbitrage
- Private Label
- Liquidation Lots and Return Pallet Sourcing
The type of sourcing that you practice will play a role in determining if the prep center you want to partner with can handle your needs. Can they handle pallets of product? Do they have a dock? What if you send them a full container of inventory?
Location
If you are importing goods from China or other countries you may want to have a prep center service that is close (or relatively close) to your port of entry. This way you don't have to shell out for a large shipping fee from the port to your prep center. If you practice retail arbitrage and want to be able to drop off inventory from your sourcing hauls then you will, obviously, need someone who is local to you. Finally, if you are one of the few who practices 'traveltage' (the art of sourcing while traveling) you may need a network of prep centers across the country willing to work with you while you travel through their locales.
Turnaround Time
Does the prep center you want to work with offer same day service? Do they assign you a day of the week that your inventory will be shipped to Amazon? Do you need to meet a threshold or a minimum number of items that need to be at their warehouse before they ship your inventory for you?
These are important questions that you will want to discuss with your prep service provider so that both your expectations and their expectations are reasonable and agreed upon by both parties.
Tax Consequences
If you are importing products or you source wholesale this really should not be a factor for you. However, if you source using online arbitrage you may want to choose a prep company that is in a tax free state. These states include Oregon, Montana, Delaware, & New Hampshire.
This can be an important role in your decision making process. If you pay 7% state sales tax and your prep center charges $1.25 per unit for prepping your products then you can actually save money if you purchase items that are approximately over $18.
How do I come up with that? Well, if you pay 7% sales tax on an $18 item you would pay $1.26 per unit in sales tax. If you use a prep center in a tax free state you will pay them $1.25 to prep your products but you will save $1.26 in sales tax. An overall savings of $0.01.
Doesn't seem like a lot but if your average purchase is $25 and you sell 10,000 units per year the savings will add up quickly.
Why Use a Prep Center Over Amazon FBA Prep Service?
Amazon offers prep service for your products. Surprisingly many people aren't aware of this.
Amazon will handle adding FNSKU labels to your products, they will bubble wrap, and polybag your items as well.
They even do it for what seems to be a really fair price. The prices can range from $1.00 all the way to $2.30.

Now, I would NOT suggest that you use the Amazon FBA prep service over a third party prep center.
If you allow Amazon to deal with your inventory they have no repercussions for mistakes that may be made. If they mislabel an item, it's on you.
They forget a unit in a bundle or multipack, it's on you.
You get the point.
While using a third party prep center they can make the same mistakes. However, if they do this too often they'll lose their clients and go out of business. All of the prep centers I have dealt with have very specific processes in place to ensure these kinds of mistakes are not made.
Heck, prep centers have even caught mistakes that I have made and helped me fix them.
They become a partner in your Amazon business. A trusted partner at that. And a good one will make things so much easier when it comes time to ship to Amazon.
